Candied Bacon by Baltic Maid

Candied bacon has been around for quite a while by now. At first, I was intrigued by this idea of covering bacon with sugar. I thought it was a brilliant yet crazy idea. After I tried it though all I can say that candied bacon is simply incredibly delicious. And you are really missing out if you haven’t tried it yet.

Candied Bacon


  • sliced bacon
  • 1 – 1 1/2 tbsp brown sugar per slice
  • salt (optional)


Preheat the oven to 350°F / 175°C.

Place the bacon slices on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Make sure the slices don’t overlap. Sprinkle 1 to 1 1/2 tablespoons of brown sugar onto each slice. Bake them for 18 to 25 minutes, being very watchful after 18 minutes.

Take the cookie sheet out of the oven and place it on a wire rack. Sprinkle with salt if desired. The bacon can be eaten warm or cold. The possibilities of how to eat this seem endless. Eat it plain, on a salad, as a side, add the crumbled pieces to ice cream, or fudge or chocolate.

Kandierter Speck


  • Bacon / Speckscheiben
  • 1 – 1 1/2 EL brauner Zucker für jedes Stück Speck
  • Salz (optional)


Den Backofen auf 350°F / 175°C vorheizen.

Die Speckscheiben auf ein mit Backpapier belegtes Backblech legen. Die Scheiben dabei aber nicht überlappen lassen. Dann 1 bis 1 1/2 Eβlöffel braunen Zucker auf jede Speckscheibe streuen. Für 18 bis 25 Minuten backen, ab der 18. Minute den Speck im Auge behalten.

Das Backblech aus dem Ofen nehmen und auf ein Küchenrost stellen. Auf Wunsch mit Salz bestreuen. Den Speck entweder warm oder kalt essen. Den kandierten Speck kann man in scheinbar unendlich vielen Varianten verwenden. Entweder einfach so vernaschen, zum Salat reichen, oder in Eis oder Schokolade verwenden.
