Black Bean Hummus – Hummus mit Schwarzen Bohnen

Posted on | March 5, 2013 | 3 Comments

In the Middle Eastern cuisine, hummus is made with garbanzo beans (chickpeas). And I absolutely love garbanzo beans and hummus. The other day, however, I was craving hummus and I had all the ingredients for it except garbanzo beans. Instead I had a bunch of black beans. After a quick recipe search on the internet, I found an easy recipe for black bean hummus which seemed promising. The black bean version is every bit as delicious as the one with chickpeas. This recipe is definitely a keeper. :-)

Black Bean Hummus

  • 1/3 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 tbsp tahini
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 2 tbsp lime juice
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1-2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/4 tsp salt, plus more to taste
  • 2 cups cooked or canned black beans
  • 1 garlic clove
  • chili powder, to taste

Place all ingredients in a food processor, and process until smooth. Adjust seasoning if necessary.

Spoon the black bean hummus into a dish and serve with pita, tortilla chips, and/or vegetables to dip.

Guten Appetit!
