This smoothie is called a Flat-Belly-Diet Smoothie. As if I needed another reason to try it. The recipe made it onto my to-try list when I read blueberries but hey, this makes this smoothie even better
I use oats a lot in smoothies but this is the first smoothie I tried with ground flaxseed. The original recipe asks for flaxseed oil but I substituted ground flaxseed instead. This is going to be a regular addition to my smoothies from now simply because of the great health benefits.
Here’s a quick overview of the some of the nutritional values that flaxseed can provide. “Flaxseed’s health benefits come from the fact that it’s high in fiber and omega-3 fatty acids, as well as phytochemicals called lignans. One tablespoon of ground flaxseed contains 2 grams of polyunsaturated fatty acids (includes the omega 3s) and 2 grams of dietary fiber and 37 calories. Flaxseed is commonly used to improve digestive health or relieve constipation. Flaxseed may also help lower total blood cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL, or “bad”) cholesterol levels, which may help reduce the risk of heart disease.” (MayoClinic)
