Bacon and Egg Bites

Posted on | January 21, 2013 | 3 Comments

These little bacon and egg bites are really tasty. I mean, this is bacon and eggs what’s not to like :-) These bites are also really easy to make and they’re very versatile, too. I added some cilantro, red bell peppers, and some seasonings to the eggs. But I can imagine this would be great with some cheese or maybe olives, different herbs or whatever else you fancy. They make great appetizers or how about serving them as a side to a salad.

On another note, I don’t know what kind of lighting other food bloggers use but my only source of lighting has been natural light so far. Of course, natural light isn’t always available and hence this limits me quite a bit. In the summer, natural light is readily available, at least here in California, but in the winter, however, this becomes quite a problem. There are so many recipes that never made it onto this blog because the pictures turned out either too dark, the white balance was off, or I didn’t even attempt taking pictures.

I have been contemplating for quite a while about buying some artifical lighting but to be honest, I didn’t really know where to start with the whole lighting issue. Finally, I just went for it and I am very excited about my choice (Lowel EGO Digital Imaging, Tabletop Fluorescent Light). This tabletop light will allow me to ease my way into lighting without having too much knowledge (or any knowledge ) about it. It provides beautiful and clean light. It also came with a reflective board which will be great (once I know how to use it … ;-) )

These food pictures were my first attempt to shoot pictures at night without natural light. They could be better but I think they’re not too bad for a first try. If you have been struggling with lighting like me, maybe this light can be your solution as well. I am very excited about experimenting more with this.

Bacon and Egg Bites

Ingredients

  • bacon slices
  • eggs
  • salt, pepper
  • optional: chopped cilantro, chopped green onions, chopped red bell pepper, turmeric

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350°F /175°C.

Line a mini muffin tin with bacon slices. I used half a slice per mini muffin.

In a small bowl, lightly beat the eggs and season with salt and pepper. Add further ingredients of your choice. I added chopped cilantro, chopped red bell pepper, chopped green onion as well as a little bit turmeric. Fill the muffin tin with the egg mixture.

Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until the bacon and the eggs are done. Guten Appetit!

Eier-Speck-Happen

Zutaten

  • Speck in Scheiben (Bacon)
  • Eier
  • Salz, Pfeffer
  • nach Belieben:  klein gehacktes Korianderkraut, klein geschnitte Zwiebelpiepen, klein geschnittene rote Paprikaschote, Kurkuma

Zubereitung

Guten Appetit!

Good photos! I love bacon and egg cups and make them quite often, too. I also don’t always have a good light for my food photos, especially because usually I cook in the evening. I’ve used an external flash (speed light) on quite a few of my photos and, while the photos are still not the same as with natural light, speed light has been a great helper for me!

@ Julia: Thank you! I love your photos so external flash must work pretty good for food photography as well. I don’t have one so I have never tried it.
